Well, I’m still here and still posting. One thing that has always bothered me about my blog is how visually bland it is. I don’t have any of those bells and whistles that so many of you do. I’d like to brighten the place up a bit. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I could easily do this?

You could try using a different blog template that blogger provides. The only problem is you then have to republish your entire blog which takes FOREVER. You could also try using a different font or font color. I’ve even gone blog surfing to get ideas. Good luck on your quest!
One thing about your template is that it’s really busy as it is. So, adding colorful stuff to is might make it migraine-inducing. That’s the reason I went with the simple white. I feel that if I put buttons on it or pictures and such, they will stand out better. >>Countrygirl’s idea to go blog surfing to see what you like is great.>>Fingers crossed for you.>>-N
I agree with Natalia. If i were you, i’d go plain color, then add all your bells and whistles….at least blogroll anyhow! Republishing doesn’t take long, yours would take less than mine, and mine only takes a few minutes.
Phil, there are several non-Blogger related websites that offer free blogger templates. I’d choose one of those – they are far more interesting than the free templates offered by blogger.>>http://blogger-templates.blogspot.com/>http://bloggertemplatesbyangelicfx.blogspot.com/>http://bloggertemplatesbycaz.blogspot.com/2005_07_01_bloggertemplatesbycaz_archive.html>http://freetemplates.blogspot.com/>>The last one (freetemplates.blogspot.com) is my favorite.>>Browse around those sites a bit – you can learn a bit of html from the suggestions they provide. Also, if you’d like, I will give you the link to the online html tutorial I have studied.>>If you have any questions about html or about working on your blogger template, feel free to email me. I’m far from an expert but I’d be happy to help you as much as I can.>>Also, the template on my blog is from one of the free templates I mentioned above (freetemplates.blogspot.com). I downloaded the free template, then I added a few more links and a few things like that to spice it up a bit.>>Good luck with everything!
I agree with countrygirl, all you need is a simple template change. Be sure to save all your HTML codes just in case something goes wrong, but it’s really easy.>>To be honest, blogs are all about the posts. I would read yours even if it were aesthecially unpleasing to me. I won’t read one that is layed out in perfect beauty but bores me.>>I really think simple is good but if you want to throw something fun on there a FRAPR map from Google is fun, free and easy.
Thanks for your suggestions everyone. I think maybe I’ll just stick with what I have and hope that the posts are enough to keep people interested. If they’re not, then I guess I need to get better at writing.
I’ve always enjoyed your writing, Phil. How do you come up with all of those ideas?
I thought not having bells and whistles was your “thing”.>>When I added a list of bloggers in my side bar (what a kerfuffle that was – thanks Michelle and Don for the help!), I visited your blog right after and thought, “Oh – maybe it isn’t cool to have a list of links after all. Phil doesn’t.”>>Go mad, mate!
Lol! Thanks Justine. I don’t have a “blog roll” because I’d feel bad leaving people out. Maybe you’re right. If I don’t do it, it must not be cool.
Yeah, hire someone. 😛
