Tomorrow is the day. Exactly ten years ago tomorrow I published the first Phil Factor post. I didn’t really know what I was doing or why. I had made a few jokes at work and a friend said, “That’s funny. You should blog about that.” Here is the text of the first post I ever wrote under the title The Phil Factor.
(April 3, 2005) What Up Dawg? Is it just me or is everyone sick of Randy Jackson’s act on American Idol? How many times can we hear, “What up dawg?” Or his other favorite, “It was a little pitchy in spots,” or “It was just ahh ight for me.” The dude is like one of those action figures where you squeeze him and he has three pre-programmed phrases he rotates through. Nearly as bad is Paula Abdul. Has anyone else noticed that this season she seems drunk every week? She loves everyone this season and seems to find an excuse to physically grab Simon Cowell every week. Considering her recent charge of leaving the scene of an accident after she clipped another car on the freeway, how ironic is it that her big 1988 hit song, Straight Up, included the line “caught in a hit and run”?
That was it. Nothing too pithy. If you’d like to see it on Blogger where it started, here is the link to the blog. If you scroll down and look in the left sidebar you’ll be able to see that the Blog Archives really do go all the way back to April 2005. Some of the original posts have been deleted because they were included in Fifty Shades of Phil, which is a collection of the best 50 posts of the first eight years of The Phil Factor. If you find the post from June 29, 2005 and several July 2005 posts you’ll read the genesis of my two fiction novels as well. To celebrate, I’ll give away a Kindle or Nook copy of any one of my books to the first ten people who leave their e-mail and their choice of book in the comments. Thanks for continuing to read me.
Have a great Thursday! ~Phil
10 years! Congratulations! That’s amazing!
Thanks Suzie!
Wowzers, Phil, is there a WordPress merit badge or something for this accomplishment? If not, there should be. Congratulations!
Thanks Barbara! I haven’t been on WordPress the whole ten years though, so I don’t know if they have a badge. I guess I’ll find out in 6 years.
Congrats!
10 years! Feel like I should be sending you something tin.
Cheers and to many more years! 🙂
Thanks Donna!
Ten years…that’s incredible, Phil. Congratulations!
Thanks Jill!
Happy Anniversary!
Thanks Laura!
Wow, 10 years is impressive. Congrats!
Ten years! That’s a landmark. Keep going.
You’re an inspiration to the rest of us to keep going! (no, really, I do mean it! 🙂 )
Phil Factor has hits the 10 year mark but I fear
That American Idol has been on 10 plus years
You made fun of the judges with dear Simon Cowell
Who would have thought it’d be so much stupider now.
Wow, 10 years of blogging! I don’t know of anyone else who has been blogging for as long, Phil.
Congratulations to you. I’m guessing ‘blog burnout’ never ever featured in those ten years? I’ve seen so many blogs burnout after just a year. You’ve obviously a real passion for it.
Hearty congratulations!
That’s a major achievement! … and I love the idea that you turned your best 50 into a book. Congratulations Phil!
Thanks Joanne!
You should do a follow up to 50 Shades of Phil. That was a great book.
Thanks Theodora!
Hey, I am ready to pre order that one as soon as you’re ready 😆
I guess I’d better get to work on that!
ASAP. Didn’t I read in your bio that you worked in psychology? Maybe that’s why the first book worked so well.
Wow! Congrats! 10 years-so cool. I feel like I should be giving you a clock or a box of chocolates or something. Lol. Congrats again mate.
Thanks Sam!
Wow, Phil. That’s a d#mn lot of your funny posts I’ve missed. Not even keeping up with the ones now. So much to read, so little time. I hope there’s more time for reading in the afterlife.
I expect that there is all the time we want in the afterlife.
Wait a minute, I forgot: You and I are already IN the afterlife.
😉
