10. Zit Poppers: I don’t know if they taste good or bad, but I’m pretty sure I’m not going to eat them.
9. Ear Wax Candy: This seems like a great way to teach kids to eat things that come out of their own bodies. A parent’s nightmare.
8. White Chocolate Maggots: I love white chocolate. The only thing that would stop me from eating these is the fact that you need a can opener to get them.
7. Black Licorice and jelly beans: I don’t know who you nuts are that eat this, but who wants candy that tastes like Ouzo.
6. Mary Jane candy: Every year I went trick or treating for Halloween at least one of these ended up in my bag. Now I have kids, and every year they went trick or treating one of these is in their bag. Where do they come from? They look like they were made in the 1920’s. Who is handing these out? I’m pretty sure it’s Satan.
5. Sugar Daddy’s: This is a great candy if you like to pull out teeth and/or fillings.
4. Necco Wafers: Guess what? I love these but I included them because I realize that the rest of the world hates them.
3. Good & Plenty: Ugh.
2. Circus Peanuts: Another one I love that everyone else hates. I think these should be their own food group.
1. Swinkles Salsaghetti: This comes from a Spanish speaking country so maybe it’s normal there. Trust me, there was one far worse than this that I chose not to include because it was in such poor taste that even my blog rejected it.
So are there any on the list you think shouldn’t be? Are there candies you know of that should be on the list but aren’t?
Have a great Tuesday! ~Phil
Candy corn is my least favorite food-like substance ever. It’s waxy, crumbly texture would have been first on my list.
But….a lot of people like it;)
I love candy corn, but it gives me heartburn. It seems that taste in candy isn’t universal. Like I said, I think I might be the only person that likes Necco wafers and circus peanuts. I don’t know how those companies stay in business.
More circus peanuts for you! Thanks for a laugh at 6:30 am, sir:)
Thanks for the comments and very brief conversation! Have a good day!
You ARE the only person who likes Necco wafers You are the sole reason the company remains in business. Lucky for you it is owned by a very rich woman who loves your blog and knows of your passion. When you go, so do those wafers. And all the people say:
“Good riddance!”
To the wafers, Phil–the wafers!
There have been two others who have professed their love of the Necco wafers. I even occasionally buy them.
I saw that as I read on, and still feel faint from nausea.
Of the candies I recognize here, I agree. Except for black licorice which I grew to really like as an adult. But I do like ouzo so there you go. Do you like Sweet Tarts? That’s one of the non-chocolate things you’d find in the Halloween bag that I actually liked as a kid.
#7 and #3 … mmmmm – licorice!!!
I can’t say I recognized any of those candies with the exception of the Good and Plenty although I don’t think I’ve ever seen them in Canada.
Licorice is probably my #1 favourite candy – although to be precise, Licorice Allsorts. It even ranks a tad higher than chocolate. I think they put crack in it – one piece will send me into an uncontrolled eating frenzy 🙂
Are the circus peanuts the same as sweet peanuts? I wrote about them in a post a while back and have been trying to track them down ever since. As for the zit poppers, erm, gross!
I’m not sure if they’re the same. Circus peanuts are like orange, sugar flavored Styrofoam.
I love licorice, so I’ll take the Good n’ Plenty and you can have my Neccos 🙂
I’m not much for candy. I don’t like candy corn at all. I don’t like Peeps. The worst things have got to be vomit jelly beans and the like, along with viciously sour candies, the names of which escape me now, but I buy them for my kids now and again. I make them eat them in another room, I can’t even take the smell!
I love peeps, especially toasted over a fire like marshmallows!
Circus peanuts…used to love them until my stomach very rudely rejected them after a major OD of eating them LOL And I agree with the Candy Corn….worthless. (I can’t imagine what your search history looks like lol )
All of these would have made my list
If it’s not chocolate it probably shouldn’t exist.
Fun facts:
Hey Phil, you know when I first saw this blog, I thought it said candles instead of candies…there’s a challenge for your next top 10.
Also, there’s an episode of The Goldbergs where the mother does a whole rant on circus peanuts and then calls herself the circus peanut of mothers. It’s really funny. I tried to find it on Youtube to add the link but no such luck!
I must have missed that episode. I’ll have to look for it. I love the 80’s jokes on that show.
Oh yeah, glad your a fan. Tried to google it again. No video but I did find the exact quote “I’m the circus peanut of moms”.
You probably are the circus peanut of Mom’s.
It’s not supposed to be a good thing!!
I love the circus peanuts. I hope I’m the circus peanut of dads.
Oh okay! Yes, In that particular episode Beverly Goldberg was really down on herself and she was talking about how no one wanted the circus peanuts and then she said “I’m the circus peanut of moms”. Anyway, I think you might be the circus ringleader of dads.
circus peanuts ew they’re nasty looking at it makes me want to throw up. Almond joys are also nastyy, coconut is gross!
LOL I love Almond Joys and Mounds. I love coconut. It’s funny how specific and individual everyone’s taste is.
We’re candy compatible! I love Necco Wafers *and* Circus Peanuts! 😀 (And I think that black licorice is an evil force in a world of sugary happiness…it should be banished from the land…promptly.) 😉
You Emily are a brilliant genius on the side of all that is good!
Phil, where did you find some of these? Funny… yet disgusting. 🙂 I like Neccos too — but I’m not sure why — they’re like candy communion wafers. I always assumed the Mary Janes on Halloween came from neighbors who secretly hated children. And, I always thought the circus peanuts tasted like artificial banana, but I grew to love them because my mom did, and I thought it was mandatory. ha!
Yaaa! Someone else with good taste in candy. I like your candy communion wafer line. I wish I had thought of it.
Gack! I see two others DO like Necco wafers! If I hadn’t seen the proof with my own eyes, I wouldn’t have believed it.
I loved Circus Peanuts as a kid, still remember the taste, and would still like it, if I still craved candy. I don’t, other than chocolate.
Loved licorice, Good & Plenty and licorice jelly beans included–Yum!! But despise ouzo–YUCK!!–
>:(
as well as anise flavoring in any baked goods. Blech!
Thought Mary Janes, Sugar Daddy’s, Sugar Mama’s, and Sugar Babies were all wonderful. Still do. Love caramel in any form, brown sugar, molasses, all that. Drowning in drool while typing.
See? We all have our crazy likes and dislikes. If their were no weirdos out there, who would read my blog?
Why…I would, Phil.
😉
Well thank you Babe : )
Ha ha ha!! I’ll laugh, since you didn’t–How can I feed you a line like that, and you don’t go for it?
But you are welcome anyway, Phil. Whether I am weird or not, I would still read your blog.
I knew you were setting me up but I didn’t take the bait.
You are kinder than I. When I miss a zinger opportunity, it’s because I didn’t see the clown nose staring me in the face.
Why would I zing my funniest blog friend?
Because she would not hesitate to zing you, buddy. Mwah-ah-ah!!
😈
Wait just a minute: Did you say “funniest”? WOW!!
You’re tied with Marissa who makes all her comments in rhyme.
So to win the contest
And impress you the best,
I will seek out Marissa
And pop her one in the kissa.
Go ahead and give her a heads-up.
It’ll make for an easier target.
😈
No, I was wrong! There are three others who love the Neccos!
(urp.)
I almost stopped scrolling after the ear wax out of pure disgust but I’m glad I didn’t.
“Ugh” is how I would also describe Good n’ Plenty.
And I feel like Circus Peanuts would make incredible ear plugs.
For some reason I’m writing a lot about ears…
If the circus peanuts were used as earplugs would you eat them after?
Well considering I cringed at the ear wax candy, probably not.
