BOOK REVIEW OF “THE SNEAKER TREE”

The genre is eclectic…mystery, horror, ghost story, young adult, adult…take your pick. Better yet, find them all in this delightful read about a group of l2-year-old boys on a baseball team that go to bat for one another when they find themselves embroiled in a frightening dilemma. “The Guys,” as they call themselves,are mystified by the sneaker tree in their woods. The tall tree is decorated by a pair of mismatched sneakers, one a girl’s, one a boy’s, nailed high on its trunk, only to be joined by other pairs as children of the neighborhood disappear.  Who put the sneakers there? Why? The team, consisting of six, then five, members chant their mantra before every game,”We’re young, we’re tough, and we’re good looking,” and they use it to see them through the life-threatening situations provided by a serial killer that befall them.

The fine action, description, and suspense work equally…
