Chit Chat and Ghosts

Some of you may have noticed that I’ve been quiet the last couple months. My wife, who over the last twenty-five years has had cancer for more years than not, passed away this past weekend. I’m not here to moan and mope. But I am here to have someone to talk to. That’s one of the things that surprised me. Suddenly there was a hole in my life in a way I hadn’t anticipated. And you’re going to fill that hole for me occasionally.

I now live alone in my house. I’m not completely alone though. I do have my cat, Rory, but he’s not much of a conversationalist. He’s a great cat, but he doesn’t seem interested in my random chit-chat. So, occasionally, I’ll talk to you, telling you those little things that seem meaningless, like that I had dinner with Liam and Sophia last night and they seem to have a little mouse problem in their house.

Was that a poltergeist, or just really kick-ass hi-def tv?

Also, I think I may be haunted by my recently deceased wife. To me, personality-wise, she seems like she’d be a haunter. Also, a couple months ago I told her that when she passes away she better haunt me. Today, I think she started.

My wife was a Nurse Practitioner, and she would have loved to wear this shirt at Halloween.

Why do I think that she started haunting me today? I was sitting in my home office and I went looking in the closet for something, in the back I found my backpack that had my ghost hunting tools in it. I pulled one out to see if it still had battery power, which it did. It didn’t detect anything, so I tossed it back in the backpack and sat down at my desk.

I sat down reached into my pocket for my phone and when I pulled it out, it was open to Instagram and a paranormal investigator was in the middle of broadcasting live in Stories. I listened for a bit and then as soon as I closed it, all the lights in the room blinked. That shouldn’t happen. Last fall I had a whole, new electric panel put in my house. I could run all the electricity in New York State off of my house. But there it was; an electric blink that shouldn’t have been there just a moment after I was thinking of my wife and the paranormal.

Following my uber successful lifetime philosophy of  “I don’t see how anything could possibly go wrong!”, all alone, I’m going to do a full paranormal investigation of my house tonight. I’m pulling out the dowsing rods, my EMF meter, Spirit Box (that’s the static thing they always listen to), tarot cards, and my laser array. If I can’t catch her haunting me with all that, then she isn’t here. Who thinks that I should also film it and put it on YouTube? This sounds like the beginning of a paranormal movie that ends badly, doesn’t it. Hey, but what if we do the pottery thing from Ghost ?

As I mentioned previously, May 3 was National Paranormal Day here in the states. Admittedly, I enjoy paranormal activity a little more than most. Wouldn’t the world would be so much more fun and interesting if paranormal things were actually true? Like Fox Mulder, I want to believe.  Most of the rest of this post is three polls that I’d love your responses to because in my next few blog posts I’m going to explore people’s beliefs in the paranormal, have some interesting interviews, and occasionally make jokes.

The Top Ten Paranormal Topics

Let’s be honest, when you think of the “paranormal” you think ghosts first, cryptids such as Bigfoot, Mothman, and The Loch Ness Monster second, and then you think aliens. As you might have noticed, over the last two years I’ve been getting into the paranormal quite a bit and it is a far larger landscape than what I would have imagined. So I’m just passing on what I’ve learned. I’ll go in order of popularity.

This is the best kind of #ghost

1. Ghosts! I like the idea of ghosts as much as anyone, but isn’t there way too many ghost hunting shows on TV?

2. Aliens: Now that the United States government has caught up with Blink-182 and admitted that aliens exist, the next few years are going to be interesting.

3. Cryptids: Until about two years ago, I had never heard the word “cryptid“. Now I can’t get it out of my head. Cryptids are strange and unverifiable creatures. The big three of Bigfoot/Mothman/Loch Ness Monster have plenty of company in this category. Who wants next weeks top ten paranormal column to cover more cryptids?

4. Psychic powers: Yuri was much more than a spoon bender. His amazing psychic powers were verified by the Stanford Research Institute.  Also Uri is a great follow on IG. In his 70’s he looks like he has more energy than I do. The category of psychic powers covers a lot of specialties such as mind reading, telekinesis, remote viewing and many others.

5. Time travel and time slips: Are people traveling too and from the future to visit us? There’s a lot of interesting pictures out there.

6. Near Death Experiences: In most cases, it’s not near death. It’s after death experiences where the patient is clinically dead and their heart has stopped, but the medical folks manage to revive them. After being brought back from death, many patients report floating above the scene and can describe in detail what the doctors said and did.

7. Demonology/Exorcism: The pic above is Rich Valdes a professional demonologist that I interviewed last for this blog. Demons are different than ghosts. Ghosts are assumed to be spirits of humans who have died. Demons are believed to be sentient evil entities.

8. Objects appearing from Nowhere: There are many, many documented cases where solid objects have been summoned or just appeared in a place that was empty a moment ago.

9. Witchcraft: Is witchcraft for real? Just like any other paranormal subject, there are believers and non-believers. Witchcraft isn’t necessarily negative or evil. It depends on the person practicing witchcraft.

10. Out of Body experiences: Can you leave your body and visit other places and view things you couldn’t possibly see from your bed? Guess what? There’s some science that says yes!

My Paranormal Investigation of Thompson Park, Watertown, NY

Alien abduction is fun!

So last night I investigated the “interdimensional vortex” in Watertown, NY’s Thompson Park.

Dear Watertown, NY: If you are going to name something after a supernatural phenomena, please get it right. You claim that there’s an “interdimensional vortex” in your park.  Vortex refers to a mass of whirling fluid or air. People disappearing from one spot and ending up in another sounds like stepping into a portal. 

Secondly, if you’re going to have a freaky park located on a road called Gotham Street, why not work in a Batman statue or two? Are you just going to ignore the marketing possibilities of marrying Batman and an interdimensional portal in your park? 

I spent 90 minutes walking around this Batman-less park hoping to accidentally step into a portal that would drop me on the other side of the universe or maybe even just the other side of the park.

At dinner prior to the park, I did have a large glass of water. When will I ever learn? A little while later I was wandering down a trail in the woods of this park and I felt the call of nature. I needed to pee and I was about a mile from the nearest restroom. So, I did what was necessary and I thought to myself, “How cool would it be if I peed into the vortex/portal and on the other side of the universe it landed on some aliens head?”  Sure it might cause an intergalactic war, but also it might be best practical joke ever, right? Then I saw these: Portal potties!

Yes, I was dying to write that joke into this post.

Also, Watertown, NY, if you’ve got one of these towers in your freaky park, why not paint the top of it like a UFO like the Flushing Towers in Men in Black I ? For cripes sake, if I can think of these things, why can’t you guys hire a marketing genius to figure this sh*t out?

So, people have claimed to lose time and/or be transported from one place in the park to another? I did lose 90 minutes of my life that I’ll never get back, but there was no teleportation involved. I decided that this is just the place that teenagers go to have sex and when they come home too late they tell their parents they got teleported to another universe for a couple hours.

One odd thing was that after 90 minutes of walking around and taking pictures on my phone, it was still at 98%, so maybe those elevated electro-magnetic fields kept my phone charged. No portals but a free phone charge, so I’ll call that a win.

Just because nothing weird happened to me in that park doesn’t mean that it hasn’t happened to others. That’s one part of paranormal investigations that you never see on those ghost hunting shows. In paranormal investigations, there’s a lot of quiet waiting around that you can’t edit out when you’re the one investigating.

That Time A Ghost Saw Me

That’s right. I didn’t see a ghost but apparently a ghost saw me. He probably went back to his ghost blog and told all his friends.

The picture above was taken of me  five years ago as I was putting a pergola together. See that cloud to the left of me? The photographer didn’t see that when she took the picture. The picture was a “Live” picture on an iPhone7 that has about 3 seconds of movement. In the live version that cloud moved from one side of the picture to the other. If you look very closely at the top of the cloud you can see what, to me, looks like a face. Where I was is only about 15 yards from where the ashes of the former owner of the house is buried.

In addition to this we often had nights where would wake up to find that the television or gas fire place turned on in the middle of the night.

So what do you think? Was a ghost keeping an eye on me?
