Music Monday! Sum 41 and DMC

This was a fun moment I got to see live last week at the Alt Press Music Awards when Daryl McDaniel, aka DMC of Run DMC joined Canadian pop-punk band Sum 41 on stage for Fat Lip.

Music Monday! Sharknado!

This song, originally written by Friend of The Phil Factor (FOTPF), Robbie Rist, and remixed by Mike Relm, is your reminder that Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No is on this Wednesday night at 9 pm EST on the SyFy network. It’s a movie so bad it’s good, and it’s as American as apple pie!

Unfortunately I won’t be able to watch Sharknado 3 live because I’ll be at the Alternative Press Music Awards in Cleveland where I’ll be Periscoping live. What’s Periscope? It’s an app that let’s you stream live video to the world wide web in real time from your phone. If you follow me on Twitter you can follow me on Periscope. Even if you don’t want to broadcast yourself, you can watch others.

Music Monday! Begging for Thread

I came across this song by the American singer BANKS about four months ago. She’s only been in the public eye and on the airwaves for about eighteen months. Her name is actually Jillian Banks but she goes by BANKS. She got her music out there by posting to Soundcloud and shortly thereafter began getting radio play in England. Here in the States we were a little late to catch on, but this single, Begging for Thread is now a staple on alternative radio. I love the mood of this song.

Music Monday! Suzy & Los Quattro

This band from Barcelona is produced by actor Sharknado/Brady Bunch Robbie Rist, who interviewed  for #ThePhilFactor about ten days ago.

Music Monday! The Mockers

As a continuation of my Friday interview with actor/producer/musician Robbie Rist, here’s an absolutely hilarious song by the band, The Mockers, that Robbie is in with his friends Seth Gordon and Tony Leventhal. Give it a listen, it’s really funny.

Music Monday: Time of Your Life

This is one of my favorite songs by my favorite band, Green Day, and last week it was part of a wonderful moment. Sadly, one of my neighbors passed away too young due to cancer. My son, his son, and his brother in law played this song on acoustic guitars, with my son singing, before the internment at the cemetery and the crowd of about 60 mourners sang along together and raised a glass in toast at the end.

Have a great Monday! No, correct that, have the time of your life! ~ Phil

Music Monday: My Type by Saint Motel

One of my personal mottoes is “you can’t go wrong with a horn section.” Two things: 1) Mottoes is the correct plural of motto and 2) I’ve decided to have mottoes and you’re going to start hearing about them on my blog. This is a song with very few and very simplistic lyrics, but it’s fun. It’s got a horn section, well, it’s got a horn and that’s close enough for me.

Music Monday! Twenty One Pilots

Two and a half years ago I hadn’t heard of Twenty One Pilots. Heck, I hadn’t even heard of pilots one through twenty either. The first time I heard of Twenty One Pilots was when I got an email from Stubhub confirming my purchase of over $300.00 worth of tickets to their concert in Cleveland. I called Stubhub, who determined that someone had hacked into my account online and made the purchase. Now, I’ve grown to like a few of their songs. Despite their name they are not a band of twenty-one, but of only two from Columbus, Ohio. Here is their current popular song Tear In My Heart.

Music Monday!

Because I like music, themes and alliteration I’ve decided to add a new Monday feature, Music Monday. Music on Mondays isn’t a new idea. Steve of Steve Says did music so well that he created a whole new blog, Now This is What I Would Call Music. I won’t even attempt to approach Steve’s comprehensive knowledge of music. What I will do is each Monday post the video of a song I’m currently enjoying or maybe a classic that you might have forgotten about. This week’s song is one of those that I liked right away but wasn’t crazy about. It’s grown on me to the point that I’ve added it to my iPod. It’s a light, catchy, fun song. Enjoy. So what’s your favorite song this week?

#MondayBlogs The English Professor at Large

That tiny picture is Patricia, otherwise known to fellow bloggers as The English Professor at Large. My best recollection of  the meaning of the phrase “at large” is that it is used to describe someone who is on the run from the law usually due to some nefarious doings on their part. Patricia hardly seems the type, but who knows what kind of past that kind smile hides.

I’ve been a follower of Patricia’s blog for quite some time and almost every post is a surprise. If you read her About section you’ll find that she is an English professor who now offers her expertise to help others with all manner of writing. Behind and beyond that, Patricia is a fascinating font of stories from the golden age of Hollywood. Some days you’ll read of her travels, other days you may find a re-blog of a post from some goofy guy who think’s he’s funny and then out of the blue she drops a story of her life before being a Professor. Her father worked in Hollywood with all manner of stars from the time when there was no Entertainment Tonight or TMZ and the movie stars stayed on the pedestals upon which we put them. Patricia herself even lived with and worked for a famous Hollywood family.

Her stories and anecdotes show you the human side of and add color to people we’ve only seen in black and white. In addition to her beautifully told stories Patricia is a wonderful re-poster of blogs from others, introducing us to interesting folks we might not have found on our own. If you’ve got the time I highly recommend stopping by The English Professor at Large. Let’s hope that Patricia stays at large and keeps her wonderful blog going.

Have a great Monday everyone! ~Phil
