Are you ready for this weeks #MusicMonday? How do you get ready? I’m glad you asked. This Monday music lovers from all over the blogosphere will publish their lists of the bands they’ve seen live. Want to join in? Just create a simple post with a list and maybe a picture or two of bands that you’ve seen live in concert. Then link to this post and I’ll visit and retweet your post. The idea is for everyone to visit each others posts and talk about our favorite bands with each other.
I hope this works and it’s not my lonely list! See you Monday! ~Phil
(BTW, if you’ve got a second, I’d love your vote for my blog as Funniest Blog in the Annual Bloggers Bash Awards. You can vote HEREThank you!)
Yes, that’s right, next week you’re going to participate in Music Monday. I started Music Monday because on a Monday morning when you’re heading back to work, sometimes it’s hard to get motivated. I thought that if I started the week with a great song it would lift my mood and give me energy. I started posting different songs every week. Over time I found a couple other blogging friends that love music as much as I do, Hayley of Just Another Blog from A Woman and Steve of Talk About Pop Music.
We thought it would be fun next Monday to post a list of music acts that we’ve seen in concert to compare and discuss. Here’s where you come in: We want you to do it too. I’m imagining people reading each others lists and commenting with things like, “I love them but I haven’t seen them yet. How are they?” Or maybe, “When did you see them? What? I was at that show too!” Or “I got close enough to catch a guitar pick!” Maybe even, “That was the worst concert ever!” Whoever you like, there’s bound to be someone else on the interwebs that wants to talk about them too.
So next Monday, April 16th, I want everyone to celebrate Music Monday by posting their list of the bands they’ve seen in concert. Let’s fill the internet with music and connect with each other. If you link to me or tag me in some way, I’ll share everyone’s posts to my Twitter with #MusicMonday.
And just to get you going for today, here’s a video of my favorite band to see live, Green Day.
Have a great Monday and start working on your concert lists for next week! Maybe we’ll make Music Monday as big as Thursday Doors! If you’re going to do it, leave a comment today and link to me next Monday so I can remember to visit you and tweet you!
The video below is from the NBC show Better Late Than Never and features Girls Generation, the most popular pop act in South Korea with the guys from Better Late Than Never: Terry Bradshaw, former NFL quarterback and sports broadcaster, actor Henry Winkler, famous as Fonzie from Happy Days, 87 year old William Shatner from Star Trek and Boston Legal, George Foreman, former heavyweight boxing champ, and comedian Jeff Dye.
If you get NBC, Better Late Than Never is a fun show with the four oldsters and den mom Jeff Dye going on adventures all over the world. If you’re in North Korea, you can’t hear Girls Generation (여왕의 귀환!소녀시대, 정규) because the government has banned their music. Once in 2015 at the demilitarized zone South Korea blasted their music into North Korea. In the rest of the world you should be fine. Below is 72 year old Henry Winkler showing that he’s still got some moves as he dances to Uptown Funk with Girls Generation:
This is my favorite song by this band that is originally from Denmark but is now based in NYC. This is a very catchy, danceable tune. I’m featuring them this week because I had planned to see them this Friday but had to cancel due to other plans. They’re one of those bands that has a following but definitely deserves to have more fame and popularity.
Chances are that you don’t know many of the artists or songs on this list, but if you want to add something new to your iPhone that will bring a smile to your face when it comes on unexpectedly, I strongly recommend these songs. I’ve excluded parody songs. I’ve provided links to the Youtube videos so you can play them while you read blogs. (Warning: some songs may contain PG-13 language or themes)
10. 88 Lines about 44 Women by The Nails: This song is peppy, upbeat, and from the 80’s but stands the test of time. It’s still in my collection. Video
9. Stacy’s Mom by Fountains of Wayne: This is “Mrs. Robinson” for a new generation.
8. King of Spain by Moxy Fruvous: A hilarious and underrated Canadian band from the 1990’s. Video
7. Chicks Dig It by Chris Cagle: Just so you don’t think I only listen to obscure alternative music I threw in a country song: Video
6. Baby Got Back by Sir Mix-a-Lot: An ode to well…you know. Video
5. The Bad Touch by Bloodhound Gang: A ditty honoring sexual euphemisms. If you are easily offended, don’t listen. Video
4. Pretty Fly for a White Guy by The Offspring: The hilarious and true story of my life. Video
3. Girlfriend in a Coma by The Smiths: An amazingly peppy and upbeat song considering the topic. Video
2. Connecticut is for F—— by Jesus H. Christ and The Four Hornsmen of the Apocalypse: This always makes any list of my favorite songs of any kind. There was no official video. The one I’ve linked to looks home made. Video
1. Pantera Fans in Love by Nerf Herder: Truth be told, this band could have placed several songs on the list. This isn’t the funniest oone, but the other was so inappropriate that I chose not to sully #ThePhilFactor with it. Video
As always, it’s tough limiting these lists to ten. What are some of your favorite funny songs?
To commemorate tonights return of American Idol, I’m re-posting the content of the first ever #ThePhilFactor post from April 3, 2005 because it was about American Idol. The following paragraph is how I introduced The Phil Factor to the world. (If you want to read the actual original, click HERE.)
(04/03/2005) Is it just me or is everyone sick of Randy Jackson’s act on American Idol? How many times can we hear, “What up dawg?” Or his other favorite, “It was a little pitchy in spots,” or “It was just ahh ight for me.” The dude is like one of those action figures where you squeeze him and he has three pre-programmed phrases he rotates through. Nearly as bad is Paula Abdul. Has anyone else noticed that this season she seems drunk every week? She loves everyone this season and seems to find an excuse to physically grab Simon Cowell every week. Considering her recent charge of leaving the scene of an accident after she clipped another car on the freeway, how ironic is it that her big 1988 hit song, Straight Up, included the line “caught in a hit and run”?
That was it. I’m not sure if back in 2005 anyone even saw it. Anyway, welcome back American Idol. The Phil Factor is still here to mock you! ~Phil
I like this band for two reasons. 1. I legitimately like their music. 2. The guitar player, Westen Weiss, was in a local band that my son’s band used to open for, and once my son played with them because they were missing a bass player. Westen moved on and is now touring nationally. I’ll be paying to see Westen and his mates later this month on The Wrecks tour. Here is their song, Panic Vertigo:
