Top Ten Tuesday! The Top Ten Best Times for Finger Guns

giphy (1)

I can’t even tell you how much I hate GIFs, but when the subject of finger guns came up, how could I pass on Michael Scott? Last Friday I dropped my son off at college and for one of the pictures in his dorm room he posed, giving me the finger guns. I said to myself, “Phil, there must be a lot of perfect moments in life to pull out the finger guns. Also Phil, it’s odd that you refer to yourself in the third person in your own inner monologue.” Both very true, so I said to myself, “Phil, you should make a top ten list of the best times in life to pull out the finger guns.”

10. For your author picture on the inside cover of your next book. Mark my words folks… Time to Lie, estimated release date Dec. 2015.

9. At the end of surgery or any medical procedure really, and especially at the end of a colonoscopy or ob/gyn visit. If someone is mucking about in my private parts I want them to be confident about it.

8. Walking down the aisle after tying the knot. We’ve seen far too many wedding parties dance down the aisle to Pharrell’s Happy. How about if the bride and groom turn around and give the whole crowd the fingers guns as they leave the church?

7. Birth of a child: What wife doesn’t want the finger guns from her hubby just to say, “You did alright honey”?  If that doesn’t make 20 hours of labor worth it, I don’t know what will.

6. At the end of a job interview: Win or lose, good or bad, it always looks good to walk out with a little swagger. Finger guns gives you that in any situation.

5. Funerals: Far too many funerals are ruined by a lack of humor. If the deceased was posed in the casket, or even in a chair, giving the finger guns, who wouldn’t crack a smile?

4. After winning anything: This one’s pretty obvious. Whether it be a Nobel Prize or a game of backgammon with your grandma, there’s no better way to say, I’m the man, or I’m the Woman, than with finger guns. True fact: I taught my dog to do finger guns.

3. When you’re a bartender on a cruise ship: Actor Ted Lange, aka bartender Isaac Washington on the late 70’s/early 80’s show The Love Boat is credited as having invented the finger guns. Now all Royal Caribbean cruise ship bartenders are required to incorporate finger guns in their interactions with customers or the drinks are free.

2. Presidential debates: Now that we’re entering Presidential debate/election season I hereby vow that I will give my vote to any candidate who finger guns his opponent after a rebuttal.

1. At the completion of sex. I think the most important part would be putting the guns in their imaginary holsters on your naked hips after. Please someone do this and then come back to the comments just to tell me you did.

As always, if you enjoy #ThePhilFactor please feel free to shshare by hitting the Facebook, Twiiter or re-blog buttons below. If you do I’ll give you the finger guns! Have a great Tuesday! ~Phil

Top Ten Tuesday! Ten Reasons I Won’t Date Taylor Swift

taylor-swift-amp-039-s-logic_o_1796219

I won’t. I won’t do it. No matter how much she begs or how many songs she writes, I won’t date Taylor Swift. Here’s why:

10. If Taylor Swift married me and took my name, her name would be Taylor Taylor and that’s just ridiculous. But, if she took my first name as her married surname, her name would be Taylor Phil. I might consider letting her do that. It would be great fun at party introductions. “Hi, I’m Phil Taylor and this is my wife Taylor Phil.”

9. If she and I broke up with each other she’d write songs about it and I’d write blogs about it. Does the world really need that?

1580

8. The relationship would never work. She’d be jealous and insecure about my success. It would probably destroy her.

7. Mrs. Phil would probably kick both our asses , resulting in a lengthy and highly public trial, and I can’t go through that again.

6. Because of their well publicized feud over me, if I dated Taylor Swift I’d never get a shot with Katy Perry. (pause) Or would I?

Taylor & Katy in better times before they began fighting over me

5. She’s too tall. At 5’11’, she’s taller than me, and well… there’s all sorts of ways that would be awkward. Like at red carpet events for instance: “Hi Taylor. Melissa Rivers here from E! network. Oh wait, stop the camera. Why is your chauffeur still with you?”

4. I don’t want to get stuck supporting that one hit wonder in her old age when she’s lost her marginal good looks and blown all the money she made from that one song that did ok.

3. She’s attractive and all, but she’s no Kylie Minogue. (A little blatant pandering to my U.K. and Australian friends who’ve read this far. If you did, give me a quick shout out in the comments so I know that reference wasn’t in vain)

2.   I’m a pretty forgiving guy, but not once has Taylor’s agent called me and asked if she could be interviewed on #ThePhilFactor. I don’t pursue. I’m the pursued.

1. Taylor may be able to rhyme some catchy lyrics, but from what I’ve heard she’s a snooze when it comes to conversation. Apparently Taylor isn’t all that swift.

As always, feel free to share with your favorite Taylor Swift fan by hitting the Facebook, Twitter, or re-blog button below. Have a great Tuesday! Top Ten Tuesday! 10 Possibly True Facts About Greenland!

Last week I was reading someone’s blog and they noted that as far as they could tell, they had never had a reader from Greenland. I of course said I had a huge following in #Greenland. I was lying. So, in an effort to increase my readers from Greenland I did a little research. Very little. It was tough to find ten facts about Greenland on the internet because outside of Greenland, nobody really knows what goes on there. Here are 10 possibly true facts about Greenland:

Taylor Swift thinking about Greenland. fanpop.com

10. Taylor Swift HATES Greenland: Three of her breakup songs are about Greenland.

9. Greenland is considered part of North America: Like the nose picking kid in elementary school that no one wants to do a school project with, nobody really wanted it as part of their continent, but the United Nations had to assign it to somebody.

8. What happens in Greenland Stays in Greenland: They originated that motto, but when no one could figure out what happens in Greenland they let Las Vegas have it.

7. Greenland should have been named Whiteland because the name Iceland was already taken and 75-80% of Greenland is covered by ice and snow.

6.  Cartographers are morons: Despite how it looks on maps, Greenland is actually a third the size of Australia.

5. Dora the Explorer refuses to explore Greenland. In fact she said, “Who the  hell wants to go there? It’s fecking cold all year. No thank you.” I don’t know. I was watching and it was in Spanish, but I think that’s what she said.

4. When that “ice bucket challenge” was going on the people in Greenland were actually daring each other to pour warm water over their heads. Unfortunately they couldn’t find any. (Warm water that is, not their heads. They found those right on top of their necks.)

3. Greenland was originally settled by aliens, but the aliens left to settle on the dark side of Pluto where it’s warmer.

2. Greenland is where Australia sends their criminals.

1. Game of Thrones is a documentary about modern day Greenland: Very few people are aware that dragons and boobs are native to Greenland.

I wasn’t able to find any information on the internet to dispute these facts and since there is literally only one internet provider in Greenland, no one there may ever read this. If you know anyone from #Greenland please share this by hitting the Facebook, Twitter, or re-blog buttons below so that we can get confirmation of these facts. Have a great Tuesday! ~Phil

Top Ten Tuesday! Ten Dead Famous People I Wish Were Still Alive

I don’t mean in a Living Dead or Monkey’s Paw sort of way of course. For all of us there have been people of notoriety in their field that touched us with their work or art. Often we feel that people with brilliant talent always die too soon and although we don’t know them, we miss them. Here is my list of 10 Dead Famous People that I Wish Were Still Alive:

10. Leonardo DaVinci: In addition to his incredible artistic talent (see ceiling, Sistine Chapel and David statue, which I posed for) he also had drawn up plans for a variety of flying machines. If he were still alive we’d have flying cars and jet packs already.

9. Russell Johnson as The Professor: Another brilliant inventor, but it’s his sunny disposition I miss most. Despite being marooned with a bunch of dolts who were no help with his efforts to get them off the island he never stopped trying to build radios out of coconuts and cars out of bamboo. The world needs more Professors like that.

8. Robin Williams: He could make anything funny. A truly brilliant shining talent. Read my Robin Williams Ten Best Roles post.

7. Stuart Scott, ESPN anchor: He livened up the sports news by saying things  like a player was as smooth as “straight butter” and under pressure a player might be “cooler than the other side of the pillow.” His reporting was peppered with old phrases used in new ways and new phrases you had never heard before but you knew immediately how clever they were. Whether you were a sports fan or not, Stuart was a poet who passed away too soon for his fans and his family.

Seuss-cat-hat

6. Theodor Seuss Geisel: Better known as Dr. Seuss. He created rap before rapping was cool. Go ahead, read any of his books to a rap cadence. It’s hilarious and it works. His ridiculous rhymes and imagination spawned so many memorable characters. There’s been no one like him since. For a public speaking class in college I read a Dr. Seuss book dramatically. It was awesome. Especially my mic drop at the end. I still own a Cat in the Hat tie.

5. Steve Jobs: Read my ode to Steve Jobs, the obsessive, intense creative mind behind the rise of Apple,  Willy Wonka for the iGeneration which I penned in 2011 shortly after his passing. Were he still alive our iPhones would also dispense Doritos. (Seriously, click the link and go read it. I’m pretty proud of that piece. It didn’t even get a single like. I had no followers back then)

4. Len Bias: One of the ultimate “what might have been” people. When I was a kid he was a sublimely talented collegiate basketball player for the University of Maryland who I thoroughly enjoyed watching. He was drafted by the Boston Celtics and two days later died of a cocaine overdose at 22 years of age. He had all the talent in the world and a bright future that I was looking forward to watching.

3. Windell MIddlebrooks: His passing may not have made headlines, but Hollywood will miss him. The consummate character actor, he was in a million things you’ve seen and have never known his name. He’s one of those actors where you see him and say, Oh, that guy. I’ve seen him in stuff before. Not everyone can be a star. The world needs character actors, which is what most of us really are. Rest in Peace Windell we will miss you,

2. Ernest Hemmingway: He was the first rock star author out partying with the debutantes in Paris, and his books totally rocked. I remember reading The Old Man and the Sea in one sitting.

1. Shannon Hoon: Lead singer of the band Blind Melon. That’s not him in the bumblebee suit. I liked their two CD’s in the 90’s and was disappointed that I’d hear their music no more after his death in 1995. Shannon was not my favorite musician ever, but for this list he can serve as a representative for all the musicians who have perished too soon.

So who is your favorite dead famous person that you wish was still around doing what they did? Have a great Tuesday and stay alive. Just like Tinkerbell, every “Like” click I get on my blog is like a clap that keeps me alive.

2. Announces that she’s going to the Amish pub to participate in a wet bonnet contest.

1. Gets a tattoo of an Amish hat with the caption “Once you go black you never go back”

Top Ten Tuesday! Ten People I’d Like To Punch

Please keep in mind that I am not advocating violence towards these or any people. Nor do I have plans to assault any of these people. Ok, legal disclaimers out of the way, if there were no harm to others or legal consequences, here are ten people I would punch in some vulnerable part of their anatomy. Instead I’m going to punch them right now with words.

10. Dr. Phil: Yes, I am aware we share a name. Hopefully that is the end of any similarities. What a self-righteous jerk. You just know that sometime soon some crazy scandal about him will come out. Mark my words, his wife isn’t in the audience to support her man. She’s keeping an eye on him. Those holier than thou types are usually the biggest nutjobs behind closed doors.

9. Nate Berkus: This smug and smarmy interior decorator just walks around his show like he thinks he is the greatest thing since Dr. Phil. Nate Jerkus is more like it. I bet at home he sits around in dirty boxers and wipes his boogers on the furniture. See that picture? That’s an awfully big forehead. It’s the kind of forehead that would be hard to miss with a fist.

nate-berkus-smile

8. Gordon Ramsay: I’m guessing a lot of people want to punch this guy. One of his shows is Master Chef Junior where he yells at kids about their cooking. I’m betting though that his on screen tough guy persona is an act. At night he goes home and cries himself to sleep while listening to Rick Astley.

7. Nancy Grace: Could anyone be a meaner shrew than her?  Nancy Grace is so mean that one woman committed suicide after being interviewed by Nancy. Nancy is also a big, fat liar. When Nancy was covering the Cleveland kidnappings story she pretended to be interviewing another reporter from another location. You know, one of those split screen things where you are led to believe the people are in two different places? Both reporters were in the same parking lot in Phoenix. She’s mean and she lies.

NancyGrace

6. Justin Bieber: How did you not see this coming? I’m pretty sure I’m not even close to the front of the line of people who want to punch him. You might think Amanda Bynes deserves to be on this list for all the horrible things she’s said about her family. She’s mentally ill. I feel sorry for her and her family. Justin has no such excuse. He’s an asshat.

5. Kanye Kardashian: Unsurprisingly, he’s the least talented member of his marriage. For the first decade of this century he threw a fit every time he didn’t win an award. Remember when he interrupted Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Music Awards? I would have loved to see her take that trophy and knock him out cold with it. His kid is only one and she’s already mad that her stupid dad named her North. I bet she spits up on him all the time. I would too.

4. Chelsea Handler: She’s like Nancy Grace trying to be funny, but she’s not.

c480x270_31

3. Mark Zuckerberg: Remember when we used to like Facebook? Then Zuckerberg decided to turn it into a money making machine with targeted ads, collecting our personal info, and changing stuff. Remember MySpace where the dude that founded it “friended” everybody? Mark has yet to respond to my invitation.

2. All people with no awareness that others exist: You know those people that walk around with zero awareness that other people are around them? They walk slow. They meander. They stop right in front of you. They just don’t hear or sense when other humans are near them. An occasional punch to the neck might make these dopes a little more vigilant.

1. The Nurse that didn’t want to be quarantined: Yes, I understand it’s inconvenient to be confined to your house for 21 days. Guess what? It’s inconvenient for other people to die of Ebola because you were bored. So you showed no symptoms? So what? The doctor that just died of ebola had two negative tests before they figured out that he really did have it. Glad you enjoyed your bike ride.

Top Ten Tuesdays! Ten Things More Likely to Kill You Than Ebola

3696713

I don’t know if the rest of the world is freaking out about this Ebola thing, but I know the U.S. is, and there’s only been four people in the U.S. with ebola. As a public service I’m using this weeks top ten list to put the ebola “crisis” into perspective. In other words, there are a whole bunch of others things you should be a lot more worried about.

10. Lightning strikes: Not to be confused with “lightening” strikes which is when hairdressers stop working and no one can get their highlights done. Since 2006 276 people have died from lightning strikes, and 13 were on a beach when it happened! You’re more likely to die from lightning on the beach than you are from ebola.

9. Alcohol poisoning: About 50 people die of their own stupidity every year.

8. Roller coasters: In the U.S. about four people die every year on roller coasters, meaning that you’re more likely to die at Disney World than of ebola.

ebola-memes-02-550x550 (1)

7. Electrocution: Aside from the lightning strikes, over 400 people die every year from other means of electrocution and that doesn’t include those strapped into a chair. That’s about 400 times more than the number of people who have died of ebola in the U.S.

6. Poisonous Gas: Death by poisonous gas is the cause of 700 deaths each year, and that doesn’t include the spouses of those who are lactose intolerant.

5. Car accidents: Duh! Over 43,000 people die in car accidents in the U.S. each year. Yeah, we had the state of Maine losing their minds because a nurse who had no signs of ebola wanted to leave her house. If we considered the possibility or frequency of fatal car accidents would we ever get in a car?

4. I’ve fallen and I can’t get up! Who remembers that awesome commercial? Accidental falls kill almost 15,000 people a year, and none of them fell on ebola.

00232edc4e6f74653627d1e97c5f6137.600x

3. Get Off! Mosquitos, or rather the malaria carried by them, results in over 3 million human deaths per year. Mosquitos: scary. Ebola: not so much.

2. Man’s best friend isn’t always so friendly: Pet dogs account for about 30 deaths per year in the U.S. The lesson learned is that you should always feed your dogs on time, or really whenever they want. Keep them full.

1. Getting a coconut in the coconut: As the weather gets colder many people look forward to a tropical get away. Unfortunately roughly 150 of them die from a coconut falling on their head. And it isn’t a coconut full of ebola either.

I’ve gotta say, doing the research for this list was not fun. Death sucks no matter how it happens, but chances are that when your time comes, it won’t be ebola. Calm down everybody. One thing I’m sure of is that no one has ever died of The Phil Factor, so feel free to share it by hitting the Facebook, Twitter or re-blog buttons below. Have a great Tuesday! ~Phil

Top Ten Tuesday! The Top Ten Other Uses for Drones

Hopefully I don’t drone on about drones or else someone may send a drone to my house. With the news this week that Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University has a four year drone degree, it looks like there’s no putting the toothpaste back in the tube. We should have seen this coming. Operating drones remotely is just an extension of the video game culture that many of today’s leaders grew up in. Seriously though, there can’t be so many terrorist leaders that the drones are working full-time around the clock right? So I thought that there’s got to be some other great ways to put this technology to use.

10. That picture is why Amazon can have all my money. Someday I’ll order something from Amazon.com and a drone will deliver it. Once I tried to get Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos to do an interview for The Phil Factor and was turned down. Doesn’t matter. I still love Amazon. (BTW all my books are there too)

9. Pizza delivery: It made big news last year when Dominos test drove a drone pizza delivery, but sadly the Russians beat us to it. Last month a drone from DoDo Pizza in Russia delivered a pizza in 30 minutes by unmanned drone. Go ahead and click DoDo Pizza, it’s really the website from Russia! Last year in California some geniuses created The Burrito Bomber, a drone that drops burritos with parachutes.

8. Neighborhood watch: There was a bit of an uproar last year when in the press someone floated the idea of drones performing surveillance in the United States. People were shouting about their civil liberties and rights to privacy. Me? I don’t care. If you’re doing nothing wrong, who cares if someone’s watching? Hey, suns out, guns out. The drones can watch me cut my lawn all day long. I’ll even take off my shirt.

7. Yard Work: If I had a drone I could trim hedges and trees without even leaving the porch.

6. Take my dogs for a walk: I’m pretty sure my dogs are not thrilled with this idea, but in the winter I am not a fan of taking my dogs out first thing in the morning. I’ll just tie their leashes to a drone and send them all outdoors.

5. Stalking made easy! No more online hacking, Facebook trolling or hiding in bushes!  In the old days stalking was a lot of work, but no more! If you’ve got a sick, psychopathic obsession  let the drones do all the work.

4. Zombie apocalypse preparedness: Why risk your life going outside to kill zombies by hand? With your own weaponized drone you can kill zombies safely  and hole up inside for years, as long as the Domino’s Pizza drones are still delivering.

3. The Bieber Solution: Need I say more?

2. Delivering Phil Factor merchandise! Seriously, if I had stickers and t-shirts made who would want one?

1. Makin’ it rain with The Strip Club Drone: You know how when you’re at a Gentleman’s Club you sometimes need to join the ladies on stage and just throw money everywhere? Yeah, me neither. With The Strip Club Drone you can avoid all that icky physical contact and show your appreciation for the highly skilled professional entertainers by sending your donations by drone.

Please feel free to share your own suggestions in the comments. As always, if you enjoy #ThePhilFactor feel freee to share by Facebook, Twitter or reblogging. Have a great Tuesday! ~Phil
